Quick answer on the Uzbekistan visa for UAE residents: UAE residents of any nationality can enter Uzbekistan without a visa for up to 30 days, as long as their UAE residence visa is still valid for at least 90 days on the day they arrive. There is no fee and no application. If your residence has less than 90 days left, or you are in the UAE on a visit visa, you will need an Uzbekistan eVisa (USD 20, about AED 75, usually issued within 3 working days) unless your passport is already visa free. Message us on WhatsApp and we will check your case in minutes.
Uzbekistan has become one of the most asked about short trips at our Dubai Investment Park office. It is about three hours from Dubai, the Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara look like nowhere else, and for most of our customers the visa question has a very simple answer. In this guide we explain exactly who can travel visa free, what to carry at immigration, what to do if you do not qualify, and how to plan the trip from the UAE.

Uzbekistan visa for UAE residents: do you need one?
No, not if you hold a valid UAE residence visa. Since 1 January 2020, Uzbekistan has allowed foreign nationals who live in the UAE to enter visa free for 30 days. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Dubai states the condition clearly: the UAE residence permit must be valid for at least 90 days at the time of entry into Uzbekistan.
This rule is based on your UAE residency, not your passport. That is why an Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali or Egyptian resident of Dubai can fly to Tashkent with nothing more than a passport, a valid residence visa and a return ticket, even though the same passport would normally need a visa.
Emirati citizens are also visa free for up to 30 days under a separate arrangement between the two countries.
Which option applies to you?
| Your situation | What you need for Uzbekistan | Maximum stay |
|---|---|---|
| UAE resident, residence valid 90 days or more on arrival | No visa. Passport plus valid UAE residence | 30 days |
| UAE resident, residence valid less than 90 days | Uzbekistan eVisa, unless your passport is visa free | 30 days |
| Residence visa being renewed or cancelled | Uzbekistan eVisa, unless your passport is visa free | 30 days |
| In the UAE on a visit or tourist visa | Uzbekistan eVisa, unless your passport is visa free | 30 days |
| Emirati citizen | No visa | 30 days |
| Passport from a visa free country (for example UK, USA, EU, GCC, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Turkey) | No visa, whatever your UAE status | 30 days |

How to check if your residence visa qualifies
Count from the day you land in Uzbekistan, not the day you book. If your residence expires on 15 March, for example, you should arrive in Uzbekistan no later than mid December so that 90 days remain on landing. We always add a few days of buffer, because a delayed flight can push you under the limit.
- Check the expiry date on your Emirates ID or in the ICP or GDRFA app.
- Make sure 90 days or more remain on your planned arrival date in Tashkent, Samarkand or Fergana.
- If your residence is in renewal, wait for the new visa to be issued before you rely on this rule.
Documents to carry at Uzbekistan immigration
For visa free entry as a UAE resident, keep these ready in your hand luggage:
- Original passport. We recommend at least six months of validity, because airlines check this at the Dubai check in counter.
- Proof of UAE residence. Your original Emirates ID, plus a printed copy of your residence visa. Most UAE residence visas are no longer stamped in the passport, so the printout avoids questions.
- Return or onward ticket within your 30 day stay.
- Hotel booking for your first nights.
- Travel insurance is not a visa condition, but we strongly recommend it. You can add it with our travel insurance service.
If you do not qualify: the Uzbekistan eVisa
When the residency rule does not cover you and your passport is not on the visa free list, the Uzbekistan eVisa is the standard route. It is applied for online through the official portal, e-visa.gov.uz.
| Fee | USD 20 for single entry (about AED 75), paid by card |
| Processing time | Approval usually arrives by email within 3 working days. We advise applying at least a week in advance |
| Stay allowed | Up to 30 days from the date of entry |
| Validity | The eVisa must be used within its validity window shown on the document |
| You need | Passport scan, digital photo on a white background, travel dates and your hotel address |
| Important | Print the eVisa and carry it. It is linked to your passport number, so a new passport needs a new eVisa |
There is no general visa on arrival for UAE residents, so if you need an eVisa, get it before you fly. Our team can prepare and submit the application for you, check the photo and passport scan, and send you the approved eVisa on WhatsApp.
Other Uzbekistan visa types: business, transit and embassy visas
- Business trips: the 30 day visa free entry for UAE residents covers short business meetings as well as tourism. Working in Uzbekistan needs a separate work permit.
- Transit: citizens of a list of countries can transit for up to 5 days without a visa when they arrive and leave on Uzbekistan Airways with an onward ticket. A 72 hour transit visa is also available through the embassy.
- Embassy visa: travellers who cannot use the eVisa apply through the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai. This route takes longer, so start early and contact us for assistance with the application form.
A note for Indian passport holders
Indian residents of the UAE simply use the residency rule above. Indian passport holders without a qualifying UAE residence can now also enter visa free for 30 days if they hold a valid multiple entry visa from the USA, UK, Schengen area, Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand or South Korea, with an onward ticket. Everyone else applies for the eVisa.
Flights from the UAE to Uzbekistan
Flying time from Dubai to Tashkent is about three hours. flydubai operates direct from Dubai to Tashkent, Samarkand and Fergana, and Uzbekistan Airways also flies to Tashkent from Dubai. Flying into Samarkand and out of Tashkent (or the reverse) saves you a day of backtracking.
We book all of these routes and can compare fares across airlines for your dates. You can book your Uzbekistan flights with Tabby, Tamara or a UAE credit card and spread the cost.

Planning a 5 to 7 day Uzbekistan trip from Dubai
Most of our customers travel for five to seven days. A comfortable route looks like this:
- Tashkent (1 to 2 days): Chorsu Bazaar, Khast Imam complex, the decorated metro stations and Amir Timur Square.
- Samarkand (2 days): the Registan, Gur e Amir, Shah i Zinda and Bibi Khanym Mosque. The Afrosiyob high speed train connects Tashkent and Samarkand in about two hours.
- Bukhara (1 to 2 days): the old town, Poi Kalyan and the Ark fortress.
- Khiva (optional): the walled inner city of Itchan Kala, best added on longer trips.
Best time to go: April to early June and September to October bring mild weather. July and August are very hot, and winter is cold but quiet and cheaper.
Money: the local currency is the Uzbek som (UZS). Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants in the cities, but carry some cash for bazaars and smaller towns.
Where you stay: hotels register foreign guests automatically. If you plan to stay in a private home, ask us before you travel and we will confirm the current registration requirement.

Frequently asked questions
Can UAE residents enter Uzbekistan without a visa?
Yes. Foreign nationals living in the UAE can enter Uzbekistan visa free for up to 30 days, as long as their UAE residence visa is valid for at least 90 days on the day they arrive. There is no fee and no application.
Does the visa free rule apply to Indian, Pakistani and Filipino residents of the UAE?
Yes. The rule is based on UAE residency, not nationality, so residents of any nationality qualify when their residence visa has at least 90 days of validity on arrival.
What if my UAE residence visa expires in less than 90 days?
You cannot use the residency rule. You will need an Uzbekistan eVisa before you travel, unless your passport is already visa free for Uzbekistan. Message us on WhatsApp and we will check your options.
Can I go to Uzbekistan on a UAE visit visa?
The visa free rule only covers UAE residence visa holders. Visitors in the UAE on a visit or tourist visa need an Uzbekistan eVisa unless their own passport is visa free.
How much is the Uzbekistan eVisa and how long does it take?
The single entry eVisa costs USD 20, about AED 75, and is usually issued within 3 working days through the official portal e-visa.gov.uz. It allows a stay of up to 30 days.
Is there a visa on arrival in Uzbekistan for UAE residents?
There is no general visa on arrival. UAE residents who meet the residency rule do not need a visa at all, and everyone else should get the eVisa before flying.
How long is the flight from Dubai to Tashkent?
About three hours. flydubai flies direct from Dubai to Tashkent, Samarkand and Fergana, and Uzbekistan Airways also operates from Dubai to Tashkent.
Can I extend my 30 days in Uzbekistan?
Plan your trip within the 30 day limit. Overstaying leads to fines and can affect future entry, so book your return flight inside the permitted stay.
