Checking validity vs getting the full copy
This is the part most guides get wrong, so it’s worth being clear:
- Checking validity confirms your visa is genuine and shows its type, status and expiry. It’s free, needs only your passport details, and no login — but it does not give you a downloadable copy of the visa.
- Getting the full copy means the actual entry-permit / visa PDF. Where you can get it depends on who applied and which emirate issued it (see below).
How to check your UAE visa validity online (free)
Anyone can verify a visa with passport details, regardless of who applied:
- Outside Dubai (ICP): go to smartservices.icp.gov.ae and use the File Validity service — search by passport or file number.
- Dubai (GDRFA): go to gdrfad.gov.ae and use the Visa Status service.
Both show status and dates only. Use this to confirm any copy you’ve been sent is valid before you travel.
How to get the full visa copy
1. From the agency, sponsor or hotel who applied (most visit visas)
When a visit visa is approved, the full entry-permit PDF is sent by email to whoever submitted the application. This is the fastest and most reliable source. Check your own approval email too — search your inbox, spam and promotions folders for “entry permit” or “visa”. 2. Dubai-issued visa under your own account
If the Dubai visa is filed under your own profile, sign in to the GDRFA Dubai app or website with UAE PASS, open My Documents, and download the PDF. Note there is no public, passport-only service that prints a full Dubai visa copy for someone who isn’t the account holder — for agency-applied Dubai visas, use option 1.
3. Visa issued outside Dubai — ICP “Visa Details – Print”
For visas issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, you can obtain an official copy yourself — no login required, so it works even if an agency applied. This is a paid report (currently about AED 250 — confirm the fee on the portal):
- Go to smartservices.icp.gov.ae and open Public Services.
- Click Reports, then Other Services – Reports – Visa Details – Print.
- Click Start Service.
- Choose Passport Information (or File Number / Unified Number if you have them).
- Enter your passport number and type, passport expiry date, date of birth, email and mobile number.
- Complete the captcha, then pay the fee.
- Save or print the official ICP copy of your visa details.
This is an official ICP visa-details copy and is accepted for uses such as SIM registration and visa extension. It covers ICP emirates only — a Dubai visa will not appear here.
How to get your UAE residence visa copy
A residence visa is linked to your Emirates ID and sits under your own file, so the signed-in route works well. Sign in to the GDRFA Dubai app or website (Dubai) or the UAEICP app or website (other emirates) with UAE PASS, open My Documents, and download the residence visa PDF.
How to print your visa copy
Once you’ve saved the PDF, print it from any computer or print shop, or email it to yourself for later. Carry both a printed and a digital copy when you travel — you may be asked for it at the airport, at hotel check-in, or when opening a bank account.
Visa copy not showing? Try this
- Just issued? Allow up to 24–48 hours after approval for the record to update.
- Check your details. Enter your passport number exactly as printed, and confirm nationality and expiry date.
- Wrong authority. A Dubai visa won’t appear in ICP, and an ICP-emirate visa won’t appear in GDRFA — switch portals.
- Applied through an agency? Remember the free portals only show validity. For the full copy, use your approval email or ask the agency (for Dubai visas), or ICP’s paid report (for other emirates).
